Nacra Sailing; cover, cost and conditions
Nacra builds sports catamarans from the youth boat to the Olympic class; the Nacra 17 has been the Olympic mixed boat since 2016 and sails on foils. That makes Nacra the racing case par excellence among beach catamarans, and precisely that belongs in the contract: races are not included in standard hull cover. Anyone who sails a Nacra races, and here the inclusion is the rule, not the exception.
Foils and rudders are the focus of damage. The lifting surfaces on the daggerboards and rudders are made of carbon, highly loaded and damaged immediately in a grounding or a collision with floating debris. Repairing a carbon foil is not a workshop job but a case for the manufacturer, and the prices for it are high in relation to the value of the boat. Include the foils in the sum insured and check whether the deductible matches the value of a set of foils.
The third point is transport. Racing catamarans travel to regattas, often right across Europe, and a considerable share of the damage occurs on the trailer and while rigging and de-rigging. Our hull insurance expressly includes road transport by suitable means as well as stepping and unstepping the rig. Secure masts and foils separately for the journey, carbon parts break more quickly in the airflow than on the water.

Is damage to foils covered?
Yes, under full hull cover in the case of grounding, collision and floating debris. Wear and delamination through ageing are not. Include the set of foils in the sum insured.
Is the racing inclusion necessary on a Nacra?
In practice always. Without the inclusion a loss during a race is not covered, and on a racing boat that is the most likely loss.
