Q-Yachts; cover, cost and conditions
Q-Yachts builds the Q30 in Finland, a slender electric yacht with a long, narrow hull designed for efficiency rather than speed, which allows it to cover long ranges with a comparatively small battery. For the insurance the construction is relevant in so far as the long, narrow hull is more sensitive to twisting than a broad displacement hull; the berth and the supports in winter storage require care.
The second point is the value. A Q30 lies in the mid six-figure range, and so everything that applies to yachts of this class applies here: an agreed value, separate items for electronics and technical equipment, and a valuation established by an expert. With a small production series there is the added factor that spare parts go through the yard; repair times and repair costs lie above the series average and belong in the calculation of the sum insured.
On an electric boat of this size the battery is a value item of considerable size and the critical position in the hull insurance. Fire and thermal runaway are covered, including while charging at the berth, provided the charging infrastructure meets the yard's specification. A shore power connection without adequate protection or an improvised extension lead are increases in risk that will come up in the event of a claim.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
How large is the battery's share of the value?
On an electric boat of this class it is considerable. Set the full replacement value including the battery as the agreed value.
Is charging at the berth covered?
Yes, if the charging infrastructure meets the yard's specification. Improvised extension leads or a shore power connection with inadequate protection count as an increase in risk.

Series by Q-Yachts, with value and cover
Q30 Elektro-Daycruiser is an electric boat from Q-Yachts (Finland), built since 2018, and today changes hands at between €290,000 and €420,000.
Q40 / Q40 Cabin is an electric boat from Q-Yachts (Finland), built since 2022, and today changes hands at between €420,000 and €690,000.
Q30 Elektro is a motorboat from Q-Yachts (Finland), built since 2018, and today changes hands at between €190,000 and €340,000.
As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
On an electric boat the battery is the largest single item. It belongs in the sum insured, otherwise the most expensive part is missing in a total loss.
On a motorboat the drive is the single most valuable part. Damage after grounding is covered, an engine failure from wear is not.
