RIB and inflatable insurance
Is a puncture a claim?
It is, when a sudden event caused it. It is not, when the tubes are simply old. That line runs through every inflatable claim, and it is the reason a RIB policy is worth reading before the season rather than after it.
In short
What does insurance for a RIB cost?
RIBs and inflatables have a lower premium rate of their own, with liability from 49 euros a year. Full cover includes theft of the outboard, the trailer is carried with no separate insurance certificate needed, and the cruising area is worldwide by agreement.
Figures from the NAMMERT tariff, August 2026, annual premium including insurance tax.
Partial cover and full cover
Partial covers the boat at rest. Full adds what happens under way, including the tubes.
What is different about a RIB
Six points where the wording is not the same as for a rigid hull.
A rate of its own
Inflatables and RIBs are rated separately and more cheaply than rigid boats of the same length and power.
Outboard theft
Covered under full cover with no approved immobiliser required, which is where most competing wordings say no.
Trailer without a certificate
Carried in the liability section from Basis-Plus. No separate German insurance certificate is needed for it.
Tubes: event, not age
Sudden damage is covered, perishing is not. Store the boat out of the sun and keep the service invoices.
Worldwide by agreement
From an inland lake to the Mediterranean, the cruising area is set in the policy rather than assumed.
Agreed value
The sum is fixed in writing before anything happens, tubes and console included.
Plainly said
The tender question
Many inflatables never need a policy of their own: as a tender they are free within the mother boat cover, up to 30 hp and ten nautical miles from her. Used on their own beyond that, they are an uninsured boat, and nobody notices until a claim.
The test is simple. If the boat is ever used away from the mother ship, it needs its own cover. If it only ferries crew to the pontoon, it does not.

The three questions you actually have
Not “what does it cost”; you can work that out yourself in a minute. These are the three nobody asks an insurer out loud. Here they are, with the answers we can back up.
“Will they actually pay?”
We are an Assekuradeur; a managing general agent that underwrites and settles claims under its own authority. Our own claims department, appointed surveyors, more than 2,000 partner yards. Cover checked within 24 hours, release or a survey appointment within 48. We settle directly with the yard; you pay the deductible and nothing else.
What happens in the first 48 hours →“Who picks up the phone?”
A family firm since 1989, now in its second generation, with three of its own offices: Königs Wusterhausen near Berlin, Salzburg and Palma de Mallorca. No call centre, no franchise. You get a named contact from the first hour; and after office hours, a number somebody answers.

Find the same cover cheaper elsewhere and we make up the difference. Our comparison sets seven providers against the same criteria; including the segments where somebody else comes out ahead of us, and the one where we are the most expensive in the field.
