Sports boat insurance
Insure the boat, and the paperwork with it
A sports boat policy is the easy part. The part that decides a claim is often a document: which registration the boat carries, which licence the person at the helm holds, and whether the papers match the boat that is actually in the water.
In short
What does sports boat insurance cost?
Liability starts at 49 euros a year and hull cover insures the boat at replacement value. It applies to any sports boat and any cruising area, and it comes with the part most owners actually ask about: which registration, licence and ship papers your boat needs.
Figures from the NAMMERT tariff, August 2026, annual premium including insurance tax.
Partial cover and full cover
Partial covers what happens with nobody at the helm. Full adds what happens under way.
The papers that decide a claim
None of these is an insurance question until the day it is.
Licence for the boat and the water
Which certificate applies follows the engine power and the water, not the owner address. Inland and coastal are separate.
Registration and plate
Registration is voluntary in some cases and required in others. The policy does not depend on it, a foreign harbour authority may.
Proof of ownership
Bill of sale, yard invoice or a builder certificate. Without one, a theft claim becomes slow rather than impossible.
Cruising area in writing
Inland, coastal or Mediterranean is a line in the policy. Extending it before departure costs less than explaining it afterwards.
Replacement value
The sum is set before anything happens and does not fall with the market during the season.
Salvage on top
Salvage and wreck removal are paid in addition to the settlement, not deducted from it.
Plainly said
A boat with the wrong papers is still insured
Missing registration does not void the policy, and no serious insurer pretends otherwise. What missing papers do is slow everything down: proving ownership, proving the value, proving that the boat in the photographs is the boat in the contract.
Sorting the documents once, before the season, turns a three month claim into a three week one. We say which papers your boat actually needs, and which ones the internet insists on without reason.

The three questions you actually have
Not “what does it cost”; you can work that out yourself in a minute. These are the three nobody asks an insurer out loud. Here they are, with the answers we can back up.
“Will they actually pay?”
