Found a boat and not sure the asking price for that used boat is fair? Pick the builder, model, year and condition and type in the price. You see at once where it sits against what boats of that model usually cost. The ranges come from our boat records for 45,381 models from 3,580 builders and are checked regularly against current asking prices.
After the purchase: what happens to the insurance
- Ask the seller which insurance is on the boat and whether it passes to you with the sale. In Germany and Austria, for example, hull cover transfers to the buyer by law.
- Liability cover usually stays with the seller and ends with the sale. Arrange your own from the day of handover, including the delivery trip.
- If the agreed value on the existing hull policy is well below the price you paid, a total loss would leave a gap.
How the assessment works
For every model we hold a midpoint and a spread for each year of build. Every night part of the models is checked against current asking prices and the figures are adjusted.
Your price is compared with the range for the condition you choose. What you type stays in your browser and is not stored.
This does not replace a viewing or a survey. For an expensive boat, a marine surveyor before you buy is money well spent.

How far below the asking price do boats sell?
It depends on the boat and the season; in spring there is less room than in autumn. Our ranges already allow for boats usually selling a little below the asking price.
Why would a boat be suspiciously cheap?
Common reasons are osmosis, a wet core, an engine due for overhaul, hidden damage or missing papers. Sometimes the owner simply needs a quick sale. Ask, and see the boat out of the water.
What happens to the insurance when I buy?
That depends on the country and the policy. In Germany and Austria hull cover passes to the buyer by law, while liability cover usually ends with the sale. Check before handover.
Is the price I enter stored?
No. The comparison runs in your browser. We never see the price or the boat you check.
