Used boat prices 2026: how fast boats lose value
We hold today's price ranges by year of build for 45,381 models from 3,580 builders. That shows how much value a boat loses with every year of age, and which types lose it faster than others. Here are the used boat prices in figures.
Sailing yachts lose a median 2.8% of their value per year and hold it best. The steepest decline is among Jet skis, at 5.9% a year.

At which age boats lose the most
For nearly every type, value drops fastest between years five and ten. After twenty years the curve flattens; old boats barely lose more, and their price depends almost entirely on condition.

What this means for owners
A sum insured that has not changed in ten years rarely fits any more. Most boats are worth less today, yet the premium is still worked out on the old figure. Your policy wording shows whether that is what you want.
The reverse happens where prices have risen, as with sought after mid size sailing yachts. There it is worth checking whether the agreed value still covers a replacement.
For buyers, the curve shows where the money goes: a boat aged five to ten years has already taken the steepest part of the fall without being old.

How the figures were produced
The basis is the price range per model and year of build from our boat records, as of October 2026. All values are today's values, so an older year of build means more years of age. For each model with at least three years of build, the slope of its value curve gives the yearly loss; the report shows the median per group. The typical value at ten years is the median across all models built in 2016.
