The used boat market: what asking prices reveal
Every night we check part of more than 45,000 boat models against current asking prices. That builds up this picture of the used boat market: where boats are offered for less when countries are compared, which models come up most often and how long a listing stays up. What the asking prices reveal is shown here as figures, never as listings.
What you can do with this
Is the price of the boat you have in mind fair? Enter model, year and price.
Does the figure on your policy still match what your boat is worth today?
What is a used boat worth today, depending on condition?
How quickly motor boats, yachts and sailing boats lose value.
Where the figures come from
The basis is used boats publicly offered for sale. An offer counts for a model when brand, model name and year match and it is not a new boat. The same boat on several sites counts once.
We store no listings, photos, texts or sellers, only totals per boat type, country and month. For time on the market we keep a one-way short code of the listing number, never the listing itself.
Every figure appears only once a minimum number of offers is reached. Asking prices are what sellers hope for; boats usually sell for a little less.
Questions about the used boat market
Are used boats cheaper abroad?
Sometimes. The table above shows, by boat type, where asking prices sit below or above the average. Add delivery, VAT paperwork and any changes before you compare.
When is the best time to sell a boat?
Most buyers look in spring, before the season. Once enough months are in, this page also shows in which month asking prices peak.
How often are the figures updated?
Every night part of the models is checked, and each model comes round again regularly.
