1 : 250,000

Around 39 euros a year against ten million euros of liability. Hardly anyone works this ratio out.

Pure boat liability starts at around €39 a year. Motorboat from about €49, jet ski from €99, houseboat from €79, yacht from €100. The premium depends on boat type, sum insured, engine power, cruising area and hull cover. Seven in ten boats in our portfolio are insured below €20,000; for them the lower ends of the ranges apply.

The sum

What you pay, measured against what it protects you from

Choose a limit of indemnity. The ratio below is not advertising, it is a division, and the reason the price question is the wrong question for liability.

For every euro of premium, €250,000 of cover stands ready. Ten million as a rule covers a severe personal injury with lifelong care, that is the floor we are prepared to answer for.

These figures are entry premiums, not averages. They apply to pure liability without hull cover. Whoever adds hull cover pays by sum insured, not by boat length.

Six factors

What the premium actually depends on

01

Sum insured

The strongest lever in hull cover. Set too low means underinsurance, too high means too much premium.

02

Boat type

A jet ski has a different damage pattern from a houseboat. That stands at the start of every calculation.

03

Cruising area

49% of our boats sail inland. Whoever only sails the home lake does not pay for the Bay of Biscay.

04

Engine power

Not just a price factor: in Croatia the legal obligation starts at 15 kW.

05

Deductible

The one lever you can set freely without giving up cover.

06

Type of use

Private, regatta or commercial charter. Whoever states this wrongly risks the benefit.

The uncomfortable recommendation

For many boats, hull cover is the wrong product

Seven in ten boats in our portfolio are insured below €20,000. Whoever could carry that amount themselves in the worst case does not need hull cover. Liability, however, everyone needs, because that risk is unlimited in amount.

Many of our customers have decided exactly that. The cover in full, tariff by tariff, is on one page.

Frequent questions

Briefly answered

Why is boat liability so cheap?

Because severe personal injury on the water is rare, and very expensive when it happens. The low probability stands against a high possible loss. That produces the ratio above.

What does hull cover for a boat cost?

Hull cover is priced by sum insured, not by length. Because seven in ten boats in the portfolio are below €20,000, most hull premiums sit in the two- to low three-digit range per year. Only the calculation with your values is binding.

Does a higher limit cost much more?

No. Between 10, 25 and 50 million euros lie small amounts. That is why we rarely advise saving on the limit; the difference in premium is small, the difference in the worst case is not.

Can I switch mid-year?

At the end of the contract term, with the usual notice periods. We work out the deadline for you, cancel free of charge and set the start to the day the old contract ends: no day without cover, no year paid twice. Talk to us.
