Winter storage checklist to tick off

Two A4 pages for laying the boat up: sheet 1 takes the boat and the storage place and leads through engine, water and electrics, sheet 2 through the cover, the security and the insurance check. Print it out, tick it off point by point, sign it and put it with the ship's papers.

All year policy (not a season policy, 1 April to 31 October)
Winter storage damage covered (partial or full hull cover)
Theft cover for the outboard (full hull cover only)
Sum insured adjusted after a refit

Worth knowing

If a shed full of boats burns down, the shed is insured through its operator, your boat only through your own hull cover. With NAMMERT, winter storage damage is included in partial and in full hull cover; under a season policy there is no cover from 1 November to 30 April. Theft of the outboard on its own is paid by full hull cover alone. Document the maintenance work with invoices, after a claim it makes the line to uninsured wear far easier to draw.
