Worth knowing
Barracuda; cover, cost and conditions
Barracuda is listed with 21 models, 11 inflatables and 10 RIBs. The inflatables carry the length in centimetres and the code S or SIB, while the rigid hull versions are called Rib, from the 250 Joujou to the 700 Military. Build years run since 2004, lengths from 2.3 to 9 m.
The span from a 2.3 metre tender to a 7 metre RIB means two very different contracts. On the small boat liability cover is the priority, and it often runs under the main yacht's policy. On the large RIB with a powerful outboard, hull cover is the core: engine value, theft and transport make the difference there.
NAMMERT insures Barracuda boats regardless of build year and place of purchase. Tell us whether the boat is used independently or serves as a tender; that decides whether a separate contract makes sense. You can calculate the premium for liability and hull cover in the online calculator in about 5 minutes.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
What does SIB mean in the model name?
SIB stands for an inflatable without a solid hull, as opposed to a Rib with a rigid hull. For the premium what counts is length, engine power, value and cruising area, not the designation.
Does my tender need its own contract?
Not necessarily. Small tenders often run under the main yacht's policy if they are named there. If the boat is used independently or carries a powerful engine, a separate contract is the clearer route.

What matters for inflatables and RIBs is the same across every brand; engine output, how a claim is settled, cruising range and theft protection. The class page lists every point and every brand in this class.

Nautical information What counts before you cast off, papers, equipment, waters
Licence
Required inland and at sea from 15 hp (11.03 kW); below that, none.
Registration
Registration from 3 hp; carry the boat certificate on maritime shipping routes.
Waters
Inland lakes, the coast and the Wadden Sea, mind the tide tables and the fairway.
Equipment
Lifejackets, paddles, pump, repair kit, anchor gear and signalling equipment.
Cruising range
RIBs close to the coast; check air pressure before every trip and after temperature swings.
Weather
From Beaufort 4 the ride turns hard, and offshore wind sharply raises the risk of drifting.
General guidance, not a complete account; what governs are the rules of the waters you are on and your boat’s manual. Current wind force and direction for your waters are shown on the Home.

As the series is still in production, parts are available and repairs are predictable. Still, set the value at replacement cost, including sails, rigging or gear you bought later.
Even without an engine the rule holds: a tear from impact or vandalism is covered, UV ageing is wear.
As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
On an inflatable the cause decides, not the damage: a tear from impact is covered, porous fabric after years in the sun is not. The outboard belongs in the policy with its serial number.
For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
