Worth knowing
Jaguar; cover, cost and conditions
Almost all Jaguar sailing boats date from the years 1968 to 1998, from the Jaguar 21 to the Jaguar 29 Lynx; anyone taking one over today is buying second-hand. That is exactly why we also offer legal expenses cover for water sports: it helps in a dispute after buying a used boat and protects you beyond the mere value of the boat.
The range runs from the Jaguar 21 sailing boat through sailing yachts such as the Jaguar 25 to the JC 48 cabin catamaran, which was built from 2014 to 2018. A Jaguar 22 and a 25 XS are already sailing in our own portfolio. Rating is based on the type of boat, value, year of build, sail area and cruising range, not on the brand.
For older sailing yachts the agreed value counts: the value agreed when the policy is taken out is binding in a claim, compensation is paid with no deduction for depreciation ("new for old"), in the Premium tariff with no age limit. Club races are included from Basis-Plus upwards; races with a ranking status should be declared when you take out the policy.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
I am buying a used Jaguar 24 privately. What does the legal expenses cover give me?
The legal expenses cover for water sports offered alongside helps in a dispute after buying a used boat or with a yard. You can take it out directly together with the boat insurance.
Are club races covered with my Jaguar 22?
Club races are included from the Basis-Plus tariff level upwards. If you take part in races with a ranking status, declare it when you take out the policy so that the cover fits.
The cover that fits
For the whole class of boat
What matters for your boat depends less on the brand than on engine output, how a claim is settled and the waters you sail.

For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
On catamarans the bridgedeck between the hulls is the sensitive part, and the berth belongs in the application: double width often means a mooring rather than a marina.
For a series of this age there is no list price left. That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it, and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
On boats this size the condition of rig and fittings decides. A dismasting is covered, worn terminals after years are not.
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts: a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat, and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
