In Italy, Joker Boat builds the Clubman and Coaster model ranges, RIBs between six and nine metres with a deep V hull that are at home as fast day boats in the Mediterranean. With 200 to 400 hp the boats reach double-digit speeds in knots, and speed is what shapes the claims picture here: collisions and groundings at high speed are the expensive cases, not storm damage while moored.
Grounding is covered by our full hull cover, but not by limited hull cover. On a fast RIB in the Mediterranean, where rocks and shallows lie close to the anchorages, that is the decisive difference between the levels. Damage to the drive after a grounding easily runs into a five-figure sum on a 300 hp outboard, more than the hull insurance premium over many years.
The second point is the deductible. On boats that are used often and driven fast, smaller losses occur regularly: propeller damage, scratches to the hull, damaged rubbing strakes. A high deductible lowers the premium but shifts precisely these frequent cases onto you. Reckon with the value of a set of propellers when you choose the level.
