Pyranha Kayaks; cover, cost and conditions
Pyranha has been building whitewater kayaks in England since 1971 and is one of the brands that shaped the scene, and Ripper, 9R and Machno are creek and freestyle boats made of polyethylene for demanding whitewater. The area of use is the point that determines the policy: these boats are paddled where contact with rock and capsizing are part of everyday life.
For hull cover that means a clear boundary. Abrasion as intended, scratches and deformation from contact with rock are not a claim, they are the purpose of the boat. What is covered are events: the hull being slit open, a break after being pinned in a siphon, the loss of the boat on an open stretch, theft from the roof rack. These cases occur less often than the scratches, but they are the expensive ones.
In whitewater, accident cover is the element that counts. Injuries when pinned, when getting out in surging water and when capsizing are the actual risk, and their extent does not depend on the value of the boat. We do not offer third-party liability for muscle-powered kayaks, so check your private liability insurance, and clarify with your club or the organiser what cover exists on guided trips.

Nautical information What counts before you cast off, papers, equipment, waters
Licence
No licence required; muscle-powered craft are licence-free, federal waterways included.
Registration
No registration required. Some waters do ask for a local permit or sticker before you launch.
Waters
Inland lakes, rivers and the coast, mind nature-reserve rules; many stretches are closed seasonally.
Equipment
Buoyancy aid or lifejacket, buoyancy bags in the boat, spraydeck, a waterproof case for phone and papers, a whistle.
Cruising range
The agreed cruising range is stated in the policy and can be extended for a single trip at any time.
Weather
Offshore wind is the main risk: it carries you away from the bank and makes the return hard. Check wind direction and the gust forecast before you launch.
General guidance, not a complete account; what governs are the rules of the waters you are on and your boat’s manual. Current wind force and direction for your waters are shown on the Home.
Series by Pyranha, with value and cover
Pyranha Mountain Bat / Acrobat is a kayak from Pyranha (the United Kingdom), built from 1971 to 1998, and today changes hands at between €1,000 and €3,000.
Pyranha Burn / Machno is a kayak from Pyranha (the United Kingdom), built since 2005, and today changes hands at between €1,000 and €3,000.
Wildwasserkajak is a kayak from Pyranha (the United Kingdom), built since 1980, and today changes hands at between €1,000 and €3,000.
For a series of this age there is no list price left. That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it, and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
On a kayak accident cover comes first; liability is usually handled by your private policy. Hull cover deals with theft and transit damage.
As the series is still in production, parts are available and repairs are predictable. Still, set the value at replacement cost, including sails, rigging or gear you bought later.
