Stingray Boats; cover, cost and conditions
Stingray builds bowriders and deck boats between 5.5 and 7.5 metres in South Carolina and is known for the Z-Plane hull, a hull shape with a pronounced stern surface for earlier planing at lower power. Less power means two things for the insurance: a lower third-party liability premium via the kW scale and a lower hull risk, because the energy in a claim rises with speed.
Stingray boats are trailer boats, and with a trailer boat most damage does not happen on the water but during launching and on the road. Both are covered under the hull insurance: transport using suitable means of transport and impact damage during launching and craning. What is not covered is an overloaded trailer. Calculate the permissible gross weight against the actual weight, not against the brochure weight.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Is damage during launching and craning covered?
Yes, hauling out and putting in the water, launching and craning are expressly included; it is one of the most frequent claims with trailer boats.

For a series of this age there is no list price left. That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it, and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
On a motorboat the drive is the single most valuable part. Damage after grounding is covered, an engine failure from wear is not.
For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value. Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
