Faster Boats; cover, cost and conditions
Faster builds aluminium boats between 5 and 7.3 metres in Finland, plain open boats and console versions, many of them in commercial and official use. They are workboats that are also used privately. Anyone who uses such a boat commercially, for guiding, as a water taxi or for service trips, must state the type of use: commercial use is not automatically covered and carries surcharges of its own.
On workboats the equipment is usually a bigger block of value than the boat itself: echo sounder, radio, life saving equipment, tools, often a fixed load area or a crane. This equipment belongs in the sum insured, with technical equipment and electronics listed separately. Whatever is not in the sum is not insured in the event of a claim, even if it was permanently mounted on the boat.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Do I have to declare commercial use?
Yes. Charter, guiding and service trips can be insured with a surcharge, but without a declaration there is no cover for a claim arising in commercial use.

Series by Faster, with value and cover
Faster 745 / 785 Cabin is a motorboat from Faster (Finland), built since 2010, and today changes hands at between €85,000 and €150,000.
Faster 555 SC is a motorboat from Faster (Finland), built since 2008, and today changes hands at between €35,000 and €60,000.
Faster 495 / 625 is a motorboat from Faster (Finland), built since 2005, and today changes hands at between €20,000 and €80,000.
As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
On a motorboat the drive is the single most valuable part. Damage after grounding is covered, an engine failure from wear is not.
