Rio Yachts; cover, cost and conditions
Rio has been building motor boats in Brusaporto since 1961, and in Germany they are found above all on the lakes at the foot of the Alps and in the Adriatic. The model designation states the length in centimetres, which makes classification easy: up to 600 they are day boats, from 650 upwards a cabin and overnight accommodation are added. Besides the value, the engine power counts for the premium, and for the same length it ranges from the economical four-cylinder to twice that output.
Anyone who keeps their boat on an Italian or Swiss lake needs the matching cruising range in the policy and, in Italy, proof of third-party liability on board. Our international certificate of insurance meets that requirement; it is held in your customer account and is issued in ten languages. Checks by the Guardia Costiera ask for exactly that.
Older Rio hulls from the eighties are often in good condition but sail with outdated wiring. A cable fire is a frequent hull claim on boats of this age, and it almost always starts at retrofitted consumers without a fuse of their own. A tidy distribution panel with fuses costs little and is the most effective precaution.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Do I need a separate cruising range for Lake Garda?
Yes, Italian inland lakes belong expressly in the policy. The extension is straightforward, but it has to be in place before the season, not after the first claim.
Is the German policy enough for a check in Italy?
Yes, together with the international certificate of insurance. It proves third-party liability in the required form and is automatically held in your customer account with us.

For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
On a motorboat the drive is the single most valuable part. Damage after grounding is covered, an engine failure from wear is not.
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value. Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
