With around 60 model ranges, the A.Hellas programme spans motorboats such as the Mariner, built from 1972 to 2008, through to inflatable boats of the Olympic range from the years 1995 to 2003. Production clearly lies in the past, and these boats change owners on the used market today. For the contract this means that the value is set bindingly when the policy is taken out and is not left to chance.

When buying used, the question of the replacement value arises. In full hull cover NAMMERT works with an agreed value: the sum insured that has been agreed applies in the event of a total loss with no deduction for depreciation (new for old), and in the Premium tariff with no age limit. So even with an older A.Hellas boat you know exactly what indemnity will be paid should the worst happen.

Boats of the brand are already sailing in our own portfolio, among them a Sunny. The premium never depends on the brand name, but on type of boat, value, year of construction, engine power and cruising range. An inflatable boat with an outboard is therefore rated differently from a motorboat of the Mariner range, and your contract is calculated with exactly that same individuality.

How is the value of a used A.Hellas boat set in the contract?

Through an agreed value: the sum insured is agreed when the policy is taken out, and in the event of a claim there is no deduction for depreciation (new for old). In the Premium tariff this applies with no age limit, including boats from the older model ranges.

Is the outboard of an Olympic inflatable boat insured against theft of parts?

Yes. Full hull cover includes theft of parts including the outboard, plus collision, grounding and vandalism. State the engine and its power when taking out the policy, because it is one of the premium factors.

What this means for the cover

For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.

On a motorboat the drive is the single most valuable part. Damage after grounding is covered, an engine failure from wear is not.

Even without an engine the rule holds: a tear from impact or vandalism is covered, UV ageing is wear.

For a series of this age there is no list price left. That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it, and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.

On an inflatable the cause decides, not the damage: a tear from impact is covered, porous fabric after years in the sun is not. The outboard belongs in the policy with its serial number.

On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value. Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
