Capelli Tempest; cover, cost and conditions
Capelli builds the Tempest range in Italy, RIBs between five and nine metres which in the Mediterranean are part of the standard equipment of rental operators and day trippers. This very rental business is the point at which contracts fail: a boat that is rented out is used commercially, and that is a different risk from private use. Anyone who rents out their Capelli even occasionally has to declare it.
For the private owner, the engine and the inflatable tubes are the two values that belong separately in the application. On a Tempest 750 with a 250 hp outboard, the engine accounts for around half of the total value, and engine theft is a real focus of claims in the Mediterranean region. Our full hull cover includes it, including theft of the engine on its own; secure it additionally by mechanical means and record the serial number.
In the Mediterranean there is also the question of the berth. Many Capellis lie on mooring buoys or at a floating jetty instead of in a box berth, more exposed in a storm and more easily accessible for theft. State the type of berth in the application. For the winter the rule is: tubes depressurised, boat dry, engine flushed, the same three points that the yard also prescribes.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Can I rent out my Capelli?
Only with declared commercial use. We write chartering, but calculate the premium differently; without a declaration the cover is missing.
How large is the engine's share of the value?
On a 7.5 metre RIB with 250 hp, around half. List the boat and the engine separately in the application, with the engine number.

Nautical information What counts before you cast off, papers, equipment, waters
Licence
Required inland and at sea from 15 hp (11.03 kW); below that, none.
Registration
Registration from 3 hp; carry the boat certificate on maritime shipping routes.
Waters
Inland lakes, the coast and the Wadden Sea, mind the tide tables and the fairway.
Equipment
Lifejackets, paddles, pump, repair kit, anchor gear and signalling equipment.
Cruising range
RIBs close to the coast; check air pressure before every trip and after temperature swings.
Weather
From Beaufort 4 the ride turns hard, and offshore wind sharply raises the risk of drifting.
General guidance, not a complete account; what governs are the rules of the waters you are on and your boat’s manual. Current wind force and direction for your waters are shown on the Home.

As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
On an inflatable the cause decides, not the damage: a tear from impact is covered, porous fabric after years in the sun is not. The outboard belongs in the policy with its serial number.
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value. Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
