Navikom; cover, cost and conditions
The sum insured covers more than the hull: electronics, sails and equipment should appear in the schedule so that the agreed value reflects the whole boat. With the Viko sailing boats from Navikom, built since 2002, this is particularly worth looking at, because in a total loss the agreed value is indemnified with no deduction for depreciation (new for old).
With 42 documented model ranges, the programme extends from the Viko 20 through the Viko S 26 to the Viko S 35, plus the Amaco 210 motor boat, and many ranges are still in production today. Whether you buy new or second hand makes no difference to taking out the policy: online it works up to a sum insured of 2.5 million euros.
A Viko 20 is already sailing in our own portfolio. For the premium of the sailing boats, sail area, value, year of construction and cruising range count, and with the Amaco 210 the engine power, while the brand does not enter into it. Club races are included from Basis-Plus upwards, and races with scoring status are declared when the policy is taken out.

Frequent questions
Does the electronics of my Viko S 30 have to be included in the sum insured?
It should be: only what appears in the schedule is reflected in the agreed value. State the electronics and equipment with their value, and they become part of the indemnity with no deduction for depreciation (new for old).
Are club races with a Navikom Viko covered?
Yes, from the Basis-Plus tariff level upwards. Races with scoring status are declared when the policy is taken out so that the contract records the race use correctly.

Licence
A powerboat licence (inland or coastal) is required from 15 hp (11.03 kW).
Registration

As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
On a motorboat the drive is the single most valuable part. Damage after grounding is covered, an engine failure from wear is not.
On boats this size the condition of rig and fittings decides. A dismasting is covered, worn terminals after years are not.
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts: a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat, and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
