Sting Boats; cover, cost and conditions
Sting builds compact GRP boats between 4.8 and 6.1 metres in Finland, open console boats and small cabin boats for inland lakes and the coast. They are entry-level boats in the best sense: simple, robust, with an outboard. At this size the value of the boat is often below 30,000 euros, and many owners ask whether hull insurance is worthwhile. The answer does not depend on the value but on the engine: on these boats the outboard accounts for half the value.
The second point with small trailer boats is theft protection. In winter the boat and trailer often stand on the owner's own property, in summer at the jetty or on the club grounds. For theft our rule is: a secured parking place, securing the engine and trailer beyond the standard bolting. A wheel clamp on the trailer and an engine lock cost little and are the condition under which the cover applies.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
What do I have to do for theft protection?
Park the boat and trailer in a secured parking place and secure the engine and the trailer beyond the standard bolting, with an engine lock and a wheel clamp. Without this securing, theft cover does not apply.

As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
On a motorboat the drive is the single most valuable part. Damage after grounding is covered, an engine failure from wear is not.
