Worth knowing
American Industries; cover, cost and conditions
American Industries is listed with 7 models, all motor yachts. The range splits into two very different groups: the fast Sonic SS models in 28, 31, 35, 42 and 45 feet and the DeFever trawlers 43 and 49. Build years run from 1976 to 2001, lengths from 8.5 to 15 m.
Those two groups bring different risks. The Sonic models are fast sports yachts, where floating debris and grounding are the expensive events and comprehensive all risks hull cover is the appropriate basis. The DeFever trawlers are displacement boats for long passages, where the cruising area should be chosen generously and wooden superstructures bring the typical moisture damage with them.
NAMMERT insures boats from this yard regardless of build year and of where they were bought, including imports from the USA. On well kept ships we recommend an agreed fixed value, because the value can be above the depreciation table. You can calculate the premium for liability and hull cover in the online calculator in about 5 minutes.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
What separates the Sonic models from the DeFever trawlers?
The Sonics are fast sports yachts, the trawlers slow displacement boats with long range. For insurance that means different claim patterns and usually a different cruising area, so the use should be described precisely.
Is moisture damage to a wooden superstructure covered?
No; if it has developed over years it counts as wear. What is covered are sudden events. Regular inspection of deck penetrations prevents exactly this loss picture.

For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value. Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
For a series of this age there is no list price left. That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it, and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
