How old may a rig be?
There is no fixed limit; an overhaul after roughly 15 to 20 years is usual. What decides is the condition: a failure through material fatigue counts as wear and is not covered, whereas a failure caused by an event is.
Can my Phantom from 1980 still be insured?
Yes. Build year is not a reason for exclusion. What matters is condition, value and cruising area. For ships of that age we recommend a survey and an agreed fixed value.
