Worth knowing
Classic Yachten / Spitzner; cover, cost and conditions
Classic Yachten Spitzner is listed with 21 models, almost all sailing yachts. The records hold the Classic 382, 41, 48 and 58, the Classic 10.70 DS and 11.60, the Classic DH 46, the Performance 20 m in several versions, plus a daysailer and a sports boat. Build years run from 1969 to 2005, lengths from 7.2 to 20.5 m.
Yachts from such small series are built to customer specification, so the model alone says little about the value. Rig, interior, engine and electronics differ considerably from ship to ship. An agreed fixed value with a survey and a complete equipment list is not optional here; it is the only way to make the sum insured dependable.
NAMMERT insures Classic Yachten Spitzner yachts regardless of build year. On ships of this size the cruising area deserves attention: if you regularly sail the North Sea or the Baltic or plan a long passage, a matching agreement is needed. You can calculate the premium for liability and hull cover in the online calculator in about 5 minutes.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
My yacht was built as a one off. How is it insured?
Through an agreed fixed value. The basis is build documentation, an equipment list and a survey. The sum insured is then settled in advance and the individual fit out is recorded rather than estimated after a loss.
What does DS mean in the model name?
DS stands for deck saloon, a yacht with a raised saloon and all round glazing. That layout brings more glass surfaces, which are more costly after damage, and that belongs in the sum insured.

For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts: a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat, and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
On boats this size the condition of rig and fittings decides. A dismasting is covered, worn terminals after years are not.
For a series of this age there is no list price left. That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it, and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
