Worth knowing
Galeon Yachts; cover, cost and conditions
Galeon builds motor yachts between 9 and 25 metres in Poland and is known for fold-out hull sides and beach club concepts, terraces that open to the side and to the stern. This mechanism is a block of value and a source of claims: hydraulics, seals, locking mechanisms. Damage to the fold-out hull side is covered under full hull cover if it results from an event, but not where the seals are worn.
On yachts with an opening hull side there is a further practical point: the terrace may only be opened in calm water and at anchor. Water that comes in through an opened hull side because a swell has got up is an operating error and as a rule not covered. Anyone using this function should know and observe the operating instructions of the yard, as it is the line between an insured claim and the owner's own fault.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Is the fold-out terrace insured as well?
As permanently installed equipment yes, for damage caused by an event. Water that comes in through an opened hull side in a swell is an operating error and as a rule not covered.

As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value. Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
