Worth knowing
Nauticat Yachts; cover, cost and conditions
In Finland, Nauticat builds motorsailers and deck saloon yachts between 10 and 14 metres, yachts with an enclosed inside helm station, a powerful engine and solid wood joinery, built for sailing in any weather in northern waters. The motorsailer is a category of its own with its own risk profile.
With a motorsailer both means of propulsion count: for sailing yachts the sail area determines the third-party liability premium, and the engine is a block of value within the hull. For the premium you state both correctly. The second point is the inside helm station, which makes year-round use possible, and this makes frost and on-board heating relevant. We cover frost damage where the boat has been properly winterised, which during continuous use means frost protection in operation.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
How is a motorsailer classified?
For sailing yachts the third-party liability premium follows the sail area. State both correctly, sail area and engine output; the engine is part of the insured value of the boat.

Series by Nauticat, with value and cover
Nauticat 33 / 38 (classic) is a sailing yacht from Nauticat (Finland), built from 1969 to 1995, and today changes hands at between €45,000 and €120,000.
Nauticat 441 / 515 is a sailing yacht from Nauticat (Finland), built since 2005, and today changes hands at between €320,000 and €890,000.
Nauticat 331 / 385 is a sailing yacht from Nauticat (Finland), built since 1995, and today changes hands at between €130,000 and €460,000.
For a series of this age there is no list price left. That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it, and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts: a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat, and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
