Worth knowing
Southern Wind Shipyard; cover, cost and conditions
Southern Wind builds semi custom sailing yachts between 25 and 35 metres in carbon sandwich in Cape Town, performance cruisers with racing genes and a high standard of fit out. The yachts are sailed worldwide, many of them in the Mediterranean and the Caribbean.
With yachts that move between continents, the cruising range is the central agreement: worldwide applies without restriction, but delivery passages across the Atlantic must be reported in advance, and salvage cover should match the distance. Carbon brings the material surcharge. For sums insured above 2.5 million euros, underwriting is handled personally, so please call us.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Do I have to report a delivery passage?
Yes, if it goes beyond the agreed cruising range. Report it in advance, an extension is straightforward, and damage outside the cruising range is not covered.

Series by Southern Wind, with value and cover
Southern Wind SW 78 / 82 is a sailing yacht from Southern Wind (South Africa), built since 2005, and today changes hands at between €3,200,000 and €5,800,000.
Southern Wind SW 100 is a sailing yacht from Southern Wind (South Africa), built since 2010, and today changes hands at between €5,500,000 and €9,500,000.
Southern Wind 96 / 108 is a sailing yacht from Southern Wind (South Africa), built since 2000, and today changes hands at between €7,000,000 and €22,000,000.
As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts: a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat, and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
