Worth knowing
Wauquiez; cover, cost and conditions
In France Wauquiez builds the Pilot Saloon model range between 12 and 15 metres, deck saloon yachts with a high standard of fitting out. The older Gladiateur and Centurion models from the seventies and eighties are solid cruising yachts with a good reputation and are traded as classics today.
Two generations, two focal points. On the current Pilot Saloons the large saloon superstructure with its window areas is the exposed point, hail under limited hull cover, breakage with water ingress under full hull cover. On the older models the rig, keel bolts and osmosis need to be checked; we cover osmosis in the Premium tariff for boats up to an age of 48 months, and on older boats it belongs in the purchase survey.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
How do I insure a thirty year old French yacht?
With an agreed value based on a realistic replacement value. Have the rig, keel bolts and osmosis checked before the purchase, all three are wear issues and are not covered.

For a series of this age there is no list price left. That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it, and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts: a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat, and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
