At Cantiere del Pardo Spa five decades of build years sit side by side, and that clearly separates the policies. A Grand Soleil from the eighties does better with an agreed value than with a depreciated value clause, while a current 44 Performance is written on its new value. In both cases value and cruising area belong in the application precisely, because the span from just under ten to twenty six metres covers waters from the inland lake to the ocean passage.

As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts: a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat, and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value. Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
On a motorboat the drive is the single most valuable part. Damage after grounding is covered, an engine failure from wear is not.
For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
