Worth knowing
Fife (Klassiker); cover, cost and conditions
Collector's items with a valuation of their own cannot be handled from a rate table. For the Scottish classics by William Fife, yawls and ketches from 12 to 25 metres as well as the 8mR and 12mR boats, we agree an agreed value. It is paid in the event of a claim with no deduction for depreciation (new for old).
In the schedule attached to the contract you record electronics and equipment, so that in the event of a claim it is clear what belongs to the insured scope. The build years range from 1890 to 1940, so production was a long time ago. Year of construction, place of purchase and previous owners play no part in acceptance.
Third-party liability with a limit of indemnity of 10 to 50 million euros forms the basis. On yachts of this length the sum insured can exceed the limit of 2.5 million euros, in which case an individual assessment follows instead of the online conclusion. Club races are included from Basis-Plus upwards.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
How is the value of a Fife classic determined?
Through an agreed value that is set out in the contract. This amount is paid with no deduction for depreciation (new for old), in the Premium tariff with no age limit. Equipment and electronics belong in the schedule attached to the contract.
Does the online conclusion also apply to very large yachts?
Up to a sum insured of 2.5 million euros the contract is concluded online. Above that we assess the individual case, which does occur with yachts from 12 to 25 metres in length.

Series by Fife (Klassiker), with value and cover
Fife Yawl und Ketsch 12 to 25 m is a sailing yacht from Fife (classic) (the United Kingdom), built from 1890 to 1940, and today changes hands at between €690,000 and €6,800,000.
Fife 8mR / 12mR is a sailing yacht from Fife (classic) (the United Kingdom), built from 1900 to 1935, and today changes hands at between €290,000 and €2,400,000.
For a series of this age there is no list price left. That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it, and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts: a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat, and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
