Freedom Yachts built sailing yachts with a free-standing rig, without shrouds and stays. That is low-maintenance and easy to handle, but it shifts the risk: the mast carries the load on its own, and a carbon mast is expensive. Rig and sails are included in full hull cover, wear is not. Have the mast step inspected at every craning.
For cruising yachts of this size the cruising range is the second question. Anyone moving from the Baltic to the Mediterranean or planning an Atlantic crossing needs the extension beforehand. For blue water voyages we have our own cover with single-handed rules and storm clauses, which should be examined in detail.

Is a carbon mast covered?
Yes, under full hull cover, including breakage caused by storm or collision. Ageing and wear on the fittings are excluded.
Does the contract apply to an Atlantic crossing?
Only with suitable blue water cover. We agree this in advance, with rules on crew, single-handed operation and storm zones.
