Worth knowing
Jachtbau Köln; cover, cost and conditions
When buying second hand, the question arises what amount a replacement would require. For the Carat 44, the only model range on file here with years of construction from 1994 to 2000, we settle this through the agreed value, which is agreed when the policy is taken out and recorded in the contract.
In the event of a claim the compensation is calculated on the basis of this agreed value, with no deduction for depreciation ("new for old") and in the Premium tariff with no age limit. Full hull cover comprises collision, grounding, vandalism and theft of parts including the outboard, limited hull cover comprises fire, storm and lightning strike.
If the purchase drags on or there is a dispute with the seller or a shipyard, the legal expenses cover for water sports that we offer alongside applies. On a sailing yacht the sail area helps determine the premium; club races are included from Basis-Plus upwards.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
What should I pay attention to when buying a used yacht?
When taking out the policy, agree an agreed value that corresponds to the replacement value. The compensation under full hull cover is based on it, with no deduction for depreciation ("new for old").
Does NAMMERT handle the cancellation with the previous provider?
Yes, the switching service is part of it: we cancel the old contract free of charge. Up to a sum insured of 2.5 million euros the policy is taken out online.

Series by Jachtbau Köln, build years and cover
Carat 44 is a sailing yacht from Jachtbau Köln, built from 1994 to 2000.
For a series of this age there is no list price left. That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it, and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts: a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat, and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
