Worth knowing
Mikulas Maritime; cover, cost and conditions
Anyone taking over a used Cafe 27 or Cafe 30 should base the sum on the replacement value. The five ranges Cafe 24, 25, 27, 28 and 30 were built between 1997 and 2012. For this we agree an agreed value which applies in the event of a claim with no deduction for depreciation ("new for old").
Apart from these model ranges, no details about the yard itself are available. That is enough for acceptance: we provide cover regardless of the year of build, the place of purchase and previous owners, and the premium follows from the type of boat, value, year of build, sail area and cruising range, never from the brand.
If a dispute arises after the purchase about promised characteristics, legal expenses cover for water sports applies, which we offer alongside. The boat insurance itself begins with third-party liability with a limit of indemnity of 10 to 50 million euros in the levels Basis, Basis-Plus and Premium.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
What sum should I use for a used sailing boat?
The replacement value. It is recorded in the contract as an agreed value and is decisive in the event of a claim, with no deduction for depreciation ("new for old") and in the Premium tariff without an age limit.
What are the differences between the three tariff levels?
Basis, Basis-Plus and Premium build on one another. From Basis-Plus upwards club races are included, and in the Premium tariff full hull cover with an agreed value applies without an age limit.

Series by Mikulas Maritime, build years and cover
Cafe 25 is a sailing yacht from Mikulas Maritime, built from 2005 to 2012.
Cafe 28 is a sailing yacht from Mikulas Maritime, built from 2004 to 2012.
Cafe 27 is a sailing yacht from Mikulas Maritime, built from 2001 to 2010.
Cafe 30 is a sailing yacht from Mikulas Maritime, built from 2000 to 2010.
Cafe 24 is a sailing boat from Mikulas Maritime, built from 1997 to 2009.
For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts: a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat, and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
On boats this size the condition of rig and fittings decides. A dismasting is covered, worn terminals after years are not.
