Worth knowing
Various Builders; cover, cost and conditions
Under Various Builders, our records group class boats built by different yards: the international metre classes 5.5mR, 6mR, 8mR, 10mR and 12mR with build years from 1904 onwards, and the Laser/ILCA one-design class from 1967. Lengths range from 4.2 to 20 m.
For insurance, the individual boat matters here, not the yard: for the historic metre classes with build years sometimes over a hundred years old, an agreed fixed value instead of pure current market depreciation is especially important. The Laser/ILCA, by contrast, is a small trailerable boat where liability cover is the foundation and transport should be included in hull cover.
NAMMERT insures these class boats regardless of build year, yard and place of purchase. If you are looking for insurance for a metre class or a Laser/ILCA, the online calculator shows your premium in about 5 minutes.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Does NAMMERT insure a historic 8mR yacht?
Yes, metre classes with build years from 1904 onwards can be insured with NAMMERT. For classics like these, an agreed fixed value is important so the insured sum stays binding in a claim.
Can I insure a Laser or ILCA with NAMMERT?
Yes, the Laser/ILCA one-design class with a length of around 4.2 m is insurable. Liability cover is the foundation, and hull cover with transport protection is a sensible addition.

As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
On boats this size the condition of rig and fittings decides. A dismasting is covered, worn terminals after years are not.
For a series of this age there is no list price left. That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it, and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts: a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat, and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
