Century Boats; cover, cost and conditions
Century is one of the oldest boat brands in the USA, and its programme falls into two worlds: wooden boats from the fifties and sixties on the one hand, modern saltwater console boats on the other. For insurance purposes these are two different contracts. A wooden classic needs an agreed value backed by a survey, a modern center console boat needs full engine details.
With the wooden boats, winter storage is the key point. Dryness and frost work on the hull, and moisture damage building up over months is not an insured event. Heated storage costs more than a tarpaulin, but it is the only precaution that really holds.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Do you insure wooden boats?
Yes, with an agreed value based on a survey. Wear and tear and moisture over time are excluded, sudden events are covered.
What applies to modern Century models?
The same as for any console boat with an outboard: enter the engine with its serial number and include the equipment in the sum insured.
The cover that fits
For the whole class of boat
What matters for motorboats and sports boats is the same across every brand; engine output, how a claim is settled, cruising range and theft protection. The class page lists every point and every brand in this class.

For a series of this age there is no list price left. That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it, and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
On a motorboat the drive is the single most valuable part. Damage after grounding is covered, an engine failure from wear is not.
For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
On a fishing boat the gear is often worth more than expected: sounder, trolling motor and rods are covered as equipment if they are listed.
As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
