Frequent questions
Is a dismasting on a CNB covered?
Under comprehensive hull cover yes, provided it results from a sudden event. Material fatigue on a rig that has not been overhauled for years is not covered. Regular rig inspection therefore also makes sense in insurance terms.
Does an Excess catamaran cost more than a monohull of the same length?
As a rule yes, because the value is higher and berth, craning and repair are more involved with two hulls. The calculator shows the exact difference once length, value and cruising area are entered.

As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts: a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat, and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
On catamarans the bridgedeck between the hulls is the sensitive part, and the berth belongs in the application: double width often means a mooring rather than a marina.
For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value. Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
