Worth knowing
Edel Strat; cover, cost and conditions
Edel Strat is listed with 24 models between 5.4 and 13.7 m, fourteen of them sailing catamarans, eight sailing boats and two sailing yachts. The core is formed by the Edel Cat models 28, 35, 36, 42 and 43, some as open versions or as a Cabrio. The monohulls Edel 600, 660 and 730 and the Aventure 11 Power catamaran complete the picture. Production ran from 1965 to 2006.
Catamarans need their own entries for value and berth, because they take up more width and lie differently in harbour. Since every build year lies in the past, an agreed value is the fitting basis, taking in hulls, beams, rig, sails and engines. The smaller monohulls up to around seven metres are trailerable, so third party liability is their base and transport a sensible inclusion.
NAMMERT insures Edel Strat regardless of build year and place of purchase, including catamarans berthed in the Mediterranean or the Caribbean. The cruising area can be extended before a voyage. You can work out the premium in the online calculator in five minutes.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Is a catamaran rated differently from a monohull?
Yes. Besides length and value, beam and berth play a role, because a catamaran takes up more space in harbour and is handled differently when lifted.
What matters on an Edel Cat 43 from 1995?
A complete agreed value for hulls, rig, sails and engines, plus a clearly named cruising area. On a boat of this age an agreed value is preferable to a market value.

For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
On catamarans the bridgedeck between the hulls is the sensitive part, and the berth belongs in the application: double width often means a mooring rather than a marina.
For a series of this age there is no list price left. That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it, and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
On boats this size the condition of rig and fittings decides. A dismasting is covered, worn terminals after years are not.
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts: a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat, and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
