Gaffers & Luggers; cover, cost and conditions
Two model ranges are available, the Heard Tosher 18 as a sailing boat with a production period from 1977 to 1983 and the Heard 23 as a sailing yacht from 1983 to 2002. Both production runs are complete. A manageable programme is no hurdle for the insurance, because small production runs and home-built boats can be insured at NAMMERT as well.
Boats from small production runs raise the question of valuation, because comparable offers are lacking. In full hull cover an agreed value is therefore set and recorded in the contract. In the event of a claim, compensation is paid according to this agreed value, with no deduction for depreciation ("new for old"), in the Premium tariff with no age limit.
On sailing boats the premium arises from the type of boat, value, year of construction, sail area and cruising range. Club races are included from Basis-Plus, races with scoring status you state when taking out the policy. Third-party liability with a limit of indemnity of 10 to 50 million euros stands at the beginning in every tariff level.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Can a home-built boat be insured?
Yes. Small production runs and home-built boats are insurable. As comparable values are lacking, the value is set as an agreed value when taking out the policy and forms the basis in the event of a claim, with no deduction for depreciation ("new for old").
Are club races included in the insurance?
Club races are included from the Basis-Plus tariff level. You report races with scoring status when taking out the policy, so that they are taken into account in the contract.

Series by Gaffers & Luggers, build years and cover
Heard 23 is a sailing yacht from Gaffers & Luggers, built from 1983 to 2002.
Heard Tosher 18 is a sailing boat from Gaffers & Luggers, built from 1977 to 1983.
For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts: a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat, and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
For a series of this age there is no list price left. That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it, and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
On boats this size the condition of rig and fittings decides. A dismasting is covered, worn terminals after years are not.
