Galaxy; cover, cost and conditions

The documented production periods of the 19 Galaxy model ranges run from 1986 to 2003, from the 1860 CD through the Lazer models to the 265 Lazer as a motor yacht. Production therefore lies in the past, and Galaxy boats change owner second-hand today. When buying, it is worth looking at the engine fitted, because it has a noticeable influence on the premium.

Engine power is, alongside the type of boat, value, year of construction and cruising range, one of the factors that determine your premium; the brand name plays no part. A powerfully engined sports boat is rated differently from a moderately engined one. The actual power output therefore belongs in the application exactly as it is, so that the rating is correct.

An 1860 CD and a 195 CC of the brand are already sailing in our own portfolio. For the older boats, full hull cover works with an agreed value and pays with no deduction for depreciation ("new for old"), in the Premium tariff with no age limit. In this way the value set for a used Galaxy when the policy is taken out remains binding.

My Galaxy dates from the nineties. Is there an age limit for full hull cover?

In the Premium tariff full hull cover applies with no age limit. Compensation is paid at the agreed value with no deduction for depreciation ("new for old"); the year of construction does not stand in the way of the cover.

A powerboat licence (inland or coastal) is required from 15 hp (11.03 kW).

Registration

Registration from 3 hp; for trips abroad carry the boat certificate or flag document.

Lifesaving gear, fire extinguisher, anchor, signalling equipment and correct navigation lights.

The agreed cruising range is stated in the policy and can be extended at any time.

What this means for the cover

For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.

On a motorboat the drive is the single most valuable part. Damage after grounding is covered, an engine failure from wear is not.

For a series of this age there is no list price left. That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it, and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.

On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value. Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
