Worth knowing
Ribeye; cover, cost and conditions
In England, Ribeye builds RIBs that are sold mainly as yacht dinghies and tenders, compact, well equipped and often tailored to the garage of a larger yacht. As a dinghy, a Ribeye is included in our hull insurance at no extra premium up to a value limit if it is stated in the application. On the better equipped models this limit is quickly exceeded; the boat then belongs in the contract as a separate item.
The typical damage to a tender does not arise on the water but during handling: putting it out with the davit, stowing it in the stern garage, coming alongside the bathing platform of the mother yacht. Our policy covers these operations; craning, launching and hauling ashore are expressly included. Check the lifting points on the boat and the load capacity of the davit; a tender that falls damages two boats at once.
For owners who use the tender independently, the normal rule applies: a registration mark from 3 hp, a licence from 15 hp. The third-party liability of the dinghy is included in the boat third-party liability of the mother yacht if the dinghy has been declared, a point many owners overlook and one that decides the cover in the event of a claim.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Is my tender included in the yacht policy?
Up to a value limit yes, in hull insurance and third-party liability, if it has been stated in the application. Higher values we insure as a separate item.
Is damage while putting the boat out with the davit covered?
Yes, craning and launching are included. Check the lifting points and the davit load capacity; a falling tender damages both boats.

Nautical information What counts before you cast off, papers, equipment, waters
Licence
Required inland and at sea from 15 hp (11.03 kW); below that, none.
Registration
Registration from 3 hp; carry the boat certificate on maritime shipping routes.
Waters
Inland lakes, the coast and the Wadden Sea, mind the tide tables and the fairway.
Equipment
Lifejackets, paddles, pump, repair kit, anchor gear and signalling equipment.
Cruising range
RIBs close to the coast; check air pressure before every trip and after temperature swings.
Weather
From Beaufort 4 the ride turns hard, and offshore wind sharply raises the risk of drifting.
General guidance, not a complete account; what governs are the rules of the waters you are on and your boat’s manual. Current wind force and direction for your waters are shown on the Home.

Ribeye A / S Serie 500 to 785 is an inflatable with engine from Ribeye, built since 2010, and today changes hands at between €35,000 and €145,000.
As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
On an inflatable the cause decides, not the damage: a tear from impact is covered, porous fabric after years in the sun is not. The outboard belongs in the policy with its serial number.
