Worth knowing
Salthouse Boatbuilders Ltd.; cover, cost and conditions
The portfolio mixes the types of boat: the sailing yachts Elliott 35, Elliott 52 and Transpac 52 from the years 1998 to 2018, plus the Southstar 37 motor yacht and the Catalyst 45 inflatable boat with engine, both from 2012 until today. The same basis applies to all of them, the third-party liability.
Depending on the tariff level, the limit of indemnity ranges from 10 to 50 million euros, selectable through Basis, Basis-Plus and Premium. Limited hull cover or full hull cover builds on that, full hull cover with an agreed value and with no deduction for depreciation ("new for old"). Which level suits depends on the boat and the waters, not on the brand or on the year of construction of the particular range.
Full hull cover includes collision, grounding, vandalism and theft of parts including the outboard, with an agreed value and with no deduction for depreciation ("new for old"). In the Premium tariff the age limit does not apply. The cover also applies in winter storage, during craning, launching and on the transport route.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Which limit of indemnity should I choose?
The third-party liability runs from 10 to 50 million euros, graded through Basis, Basis-Plus and Premium. The decision is made according to the boat and the cruising range, and for waters further afield the higher level is advisable.
Can a sailing yacht, a motor yacht and an inflatable boat be considered together?
The framework of cover is the same, only the calculation variable differs: sail area for the sailing yacht, engine power for the motor yacht and the inflatable boat with engine.
The cover that fits
For the whole class of boat
What matters for sailing boats and sailing yachts is the same across every brand; engine output, how a claim is settled, cruising range and theft protection. The class page lists every point and every brand in this class.

Series by Salthouse Boatbuilders Ltd., build years and cover
Salthouse Catalyst 45 is an inflatable with engine from Salthouse Boatbuilders Ltd., built since 2012.
Salthouse Southstar 37 is a motor yacht from Salthouse Boatbuilders Ltd., built since 2012.
Elliott 35 is a sailing yacht from Salthouse Boatbuilders Ltd., built from 2012 to 2018.
Elliott 52 is a sailing yacht from Salthouse Boatbuilders Ltd., built from 2003 to 2018.
Transpac 52 is a sailing yacht from Salthouse Boatbuilders Ltd., built from 1998 to 2011.
As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
On an inflatable the cause decides, not the damage: a tear from impact is covered, porous fabric after years in the sun is not. The outboard belongs in the policy with its serial number.
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value. Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts: a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat, and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
