Worth knowing
Sealord Yachts; cover, cost and conditions
Three sailing boats and one motor yacht, the Cytra, make up the portfolio on record, with build years between 1971 and 1982. All production lies in the past, and a boat of this kind only enters the portfolio used today. This raises the question of the replacement value when the policy is taken out.
A current market value would say little for boats of this age. We therefore agree an agreed value when the policy is taken out and indemnify in the event of a claim with no deduction for depreciation (new for old), in the Premium tariff with no age limit. In this way the amount is fixed from the outset.
With the sailing boats, the sail area feeds into the premium; with the motor yacht, the engine output, plus in each case type of boat, value, year of construction and cruising range. The premium is not based on the brand. An existing old contract we cancel free of charge under the switching service.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
What happens in the event of a total loss?
Settlement is based on the agreed value agreed when the policy is taken out, with no deduction for depreciation (new for old). In the Premium tariff, full hull cover applies with no age limit for the boat's year of construction.
Are boats with several previous owners a problem?
No. We insure regardless of year of construction, place of purchase and previous owners. What counts for the contract is the condition and the value, which we set together as an agreed value.

Sealord Cytra is a motor yacht from Sealord Yachts, built from 1971 to 1978.
For a series of this age there is no list price left. That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it, and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts: a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat, and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
On boats this size the condition of rig and fittings decides. A dismasting is covered, worn terminals after years are not.
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value. Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
