Skylla; cover, cost and conditions

Theft of parts hits motorboats where it becomes expensive: at the engine and the equipment. NAMMERT's full hull cover expressly includes theft of parts including the outboard, and in addition vandalism, collision and grounding. For the Skylla motorboats, built since 2014 to the present day, that is the core of the hull cover.

The programme comprises five model ranges from the Skylla 370 to the Skylla 505, and the Skylla 440 was built from 2015 to 2022. A Skylla 450 is already sailing in our own portfolio. The premium is based on the type of boat, the value, the build year, the engine output and the cruising range, not on the brand name.

The basis of every contract is third-party liability with a limit of indemnity of 10 to 50 million euros. A boat trailer is included at no extra premium, and the cover applies during launching, during craning, in winter storage and on the transport route. You can take out the policy online up to a sum insured of 2.5 million euros.

Frequent questions

Is the engine of my Skylla 450 insured against theft?

Under full hull cover, yes: theft of parts including the outboard is covered, as is vandalism. Limited hull cover additionally covers theft of the entire boat, including in winter storage.

Skylla is still building today. Can I insure a new boat online straight away?

Yes, up to a sum insured of 2.5 million euros you take out the policy directly online, above that we review each case individually. The premium is based on the type of boat, the value, the build year, the engine output and the cruising range.

Licence

A powerboat licence (inland or coastal) is required from 15 hp (11.03 kW).

Registration

Registration from 3 hp; for trips abroad carry the boat certificate or flag document.

Waters

Inland, coastal and abroad; plan fairways, bridge clearances, draught and tides.

Equipment

Lifesaving gear, fire extinguisher, anchor, signalling equipment and correct navigation lights.

Cruising range

The agreed cruising range is stated in the policy and can be extended at any time.

Weather

Check wind force in Beaufort and wind direction before casting off, and allow for gusts.

What this means for the cover

As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.

On a motorboat the drive is the single most valuable part. Damage after grounding is covered, an engine failure from wear is not.

For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
