Worth knowing
Somerset Plastics; cover, cost and conditions
The MORGAN-GILES 30 ran at Somerset Plastics from 1962 to 1999 as a sailing yacht and is the only range on record. Over such a long production period the individual units differ considerably in age. For the contract an agreed value is therefore set that reflects the value of the particular boat.
This agreed value is stated in the contract, and in the event of a total loss payment is made with no deduction for depreciation (new for old). In the Premium tariff full hull cover applies with no age limit, so that even a unit from the nineteen sixties can be written. We insure regardless of year of construction, place of purchase and previous owners.
Besides total loss, full hull cover includes collision, grounding, vandalism and theft of parts. With a sailing yacht the sail area takes the place of the engine power, and value, year of construction and cruising range are added. Third-party liability with a limit of indemnity of 10 to 50 million euros remains the basis.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Does the year of construction set a limit for full hull cover?
In the Premium tariff full hull cover applies with no age limit. Compensation follows the agreed value and is paid with no deduction for depreciation (new for old), regardless of the decade the yacht comes from.
How is the agreed value for a MORGAN-GILES 30 arrived at?
It is based on the replacement value of the particular boat and is set when the policy is taken out. After that the sum is fixed and is not renegotiated in the event of a claim.

Series by Somerset Plastics, build years and cover
MORGAN-GILES 30 is a sailing yacht from Somerset Plastics, built from 1962 to 1999.
For a series of this age there is no list price left. That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it, and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts: a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat, and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
