Worth knowing
Ufo; cover, cost and conditions
Four model ranges are recorded, from the inflatable boat with engine U.69 through the motor boat U.79 to the motor yachts U.89 and U.119. All ranges end in 2019. Three types of boat in one programme mean three different ratings for the policy, each according to the details of the boat.
With inflatable boats with an engine in particular the outboard is a subject of its own. Full hull cover covers theft of parts including the outboard, as well as collision, grounding and vandalism.
Since production ended in 2019, these boats are on the water second hand today. We insure regardless of the year of construction, the place of purchase and previous owners, in full hull cover with an agreed value and with no deduction for depreciation (new for old). Switching from another provider runs through our free switching service.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Is a stolen outboard replaced?
Theft of parts including the outboard is covered in full hull cover. If the whole boat is stolen, limited hull cover already applies.
Are an inflatable boat and a motor yacht rated in the same way?
No. Type of boat, value, year of construction, engine output and cruising range determine the premium, which is why every model is considered on its own. The shared brand changes nothing about that.
The cover that fits
For the whole class of boat
What matters for motor yachts is the same across every brand; engine output, how a claim is settled, cruising range and theft protection. The class page lists every point and every brand in this class.

Licence
A powerboat licence (inland or coastal) is required from 15 hp (11.03 kW).
Registration
Registration from 3 hp; for trips abroad carry the boat certificate or flag document.
Waters
Inland, coastal and abroad; plan fairways, bridge clearances, draught and tides.
Equipment
Lifesaving gear, fire extinguisher, anchor, signalling equipment and correct navigation lights.
Cruising range
The agreed cruising range is stated in the policy and can be extended at any time.
Weather
Check wind force in Beaufort and wind direction before casting off, and allow for gusts.
General guidance, not a complete account; what governs are the rules of the waters you are on and your boat’s manual. Current wind force and direction for your waters are shown on the Home.
Series by Ufo, build years and cover
Ufo U.69 is an inflatable with engine from Ufo, built from 2005 to 2019.
UFO U. 79 is a motorboat from Ufo, built from 2015 to 2019.
UFO U.89 is a motor yacht from Ufo, built from 2014 to 2019.
UFO U.119 is a motor yacht from Ufo, built from 2006 to 2019.
For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
On an inflatable the cause decides, not the damage: a tear from impact is covered, porous fabric after years in the sun is not. The outboard belongs in the policy with its serial number.
On a motorboat the drive is the single most valuable part. Damage after grounding is covered, an engine failure from wear is not.
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value. Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
