Worth knowing
Yamaha WaveRunner; cover, cost and conditions
Yamaha has been building WaveRunner since 1986 and, alongside Sea-Doo and Kawasaki, is the third major manufacturer. Characteristic are its own marine engines and the SuperJet as the only stand-up model in the current programme, a special case in insurance terms, because stand-up craft are used differently from sit-down models.
For all WaveRunner the principle applies: private personal liability does not respond, personal watercraft are excluded there. Our jet ski third-party liability starts at around 99 euros a year, and the hull insurance comes without any requirement for an immobiliser and without a night clause. Theft from the trailer or from winter storage is the dominant risk in this group of craft.
With the GP models and the SuperJet, racing comes into play. In our jet ski survey (as at 01.08.2026) NAMMERT was the only provider with racing cover for training and competition. Check the local rules as well: registration and licence depend on power and waterway, and bans on personal watercraft are the rule on inland lakes, not the exception.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Are races and training covered?
With us, yes, with racing cover. In our jet ski survey (as at 01.08.2026) we were the only provider with this cover, and with the GP models and the SuperJet that is the point that matters.
Do I need a registration number for my WaveRunner?
That depends on power and waterway. Registration and licence follow the engine power and the area, and in addition there are bans on personal watercraft that depend on the area.

For the whole class of boat
What matters for jet skis and boards is the same across every brand; engine output, how a claim is settled, cruising range and theft protection. The class page lists every point and every brand in this class.

Licence
A powerboat licence is required on almost every water.
Registration
Registration from 3 hp; an official number or boat certificate is required.
Waters
In many places only on designated areas; forbidden on Lake Constance and Bavarian waters.
Equipment
Lifejacket, kill switch with lanyard, helmet when racing; check the kill cord before every run.
Cruising range
Up to 2 nm off the coast is advisable; proof of insurance is compulsory in Croatia, Italy and Spain.
Weather
From Beaufort 4 it gets demanding; wind against current builds a steep, short sea.
General guidance, not a complete account; what governs are the rules of the waters you are on and your boat’s manual. Current wind force and direction for your waters are shown on the Home.

For a series of this age there is no list price left. That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it, and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
On a jet ski theft cover and engine output matter. We write them with and without an immobiliser and with no age limit on the craft.
For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
