Alubat in Les Sables-d’Olonne builds the Ovni model range and the Cigale models, aluminium blue-water yachts between 11 and 16 metres with a lifting keel and a flat bottom, built to dry out and for waters that a fixed-keel boat cannot reach. It is the French answer to the wish to be able to anchor anywhere.

Aluminium forgives a grounding where GRP breaks, a real advantage in terms of risk. The price is electrolysis: a spent anode or an incorrectly wired shore power connection eats through the hull and the rudder gear within a single season, and corrosion caused by neglected anode maintenance is not covered. An annual anode check and a galvanic isolator are a requirement at a saltwater berth, not a recommendation.
