Worth knowing
Christensen; cover, cost and conditions
The GRP superyachts from Christensen come from Washington in the USA. One model range is recorded, with lengths of 40 to 50 metres and a build period from 1990 to the present day. The yard builds in composite instead of steel, which plays a part in a repair and therefore belongs in the claims handling.
On yachts of this size the sum insured is regularly above 2.5 million euros. Up to that amount the policy can be taken out online; above it we examine each case individually and agree the limit of indemnity and the tariff level with you. The third-party liability cover ranges from 10 to 50 million euros.
You set the cruising range when taking out the policy; alongside the type of boat, value, year of build and engine output it feeds into the premium. You receive the international certificate of insurance automatically in ten languages.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
What applies to a yacht with a sum insured above 2.5 million euros?
Up to 2.5 million euros you take out the policy online. Above that we carry out an individual assessment and determine the limit of indemnity, the tariff level and the cruising range together with you.
Does the composite construction play a part in a claim?
In the repair yes, because Christensen builds in composite instead of steel. For the indemnity the arranged agreed value applies, with no deduction for depreciation (new for old), in the Premium tariff with no age limit.

Series by Christensen, with value and cover
Christensen 40 / 50 m is a motor yacht from Christensen (the USA), built since 1990, and today changes hands at between €6,800,000 and €18,000,000.
As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value. Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
