Worth knowing
Feeling / Alliaura Marine; cover, cost and conditions
In France, Feeling built cruising yachts between 10 and 14 metres from the eighties into the two thousands, some of them with a lifting keel, practical family yachts that are widespread in the Mediterranean and on the Atlantic coast. The yard no longer produces.
On the lifting keel models the mechanism is the point that matters for insurance: full hull cover pays for grounding damage to the keel system including consequential damage, but not for wear of the lifting gear. With lifting keel mechanics that are twenty to thirty years old, an inspection before purchase makes sense, because the assembly is movable, under load and hard to reach, and a defect shows up on the water, not in the harbour.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
What should be checked on old lifting keel mechanics?
The condition of the hydraulics, the guide and the locking device. Wear is not covered, only grounding damage including consequential damage to the mechanism.

Series by Feeling / Alliaura, with value and cover
Feeling 850 / 1090 (classic) is a sailing yacht from Feeling / Alliaura (France), built from 1979 to 1995, and today changes hands at between €15,000 and €48,000.
Feeling 39 / 44 DI is a sailing yacht from Feeling / Alliaura (France), built from 1990 to 2010, and today changes hands at between €55,000 and €180,000.
For a series of this age there is no list price left. That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it, and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts: a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat, and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
