Worth knowing
Quicksilver Pilothouse; cover, cost and conditions
The Pilothouse range from Quicksilver puts an enclosed wheelhouse on a boat between 5.5 and 6.8 metres, intended for fishing and coastal trips in bad weather, with an outboard and the ability to be trailered. The wheelhouse changes the risk profile compared with an open boat: more surface exposed to the wind during craning and in winter storage, but less water in the boat and a lower risk of equipment getting wet.
On pilothouse boats, the onboard electrical system is the area that is most often retrofitted: echo sounder, chart plotter, heating, cool box, charger. Every retrofit raises the value and the fire risk at the same time. Fire is already covered under limited hull cover; what matters is that you reflect the value of the retrofits in the sum insured. Electronics belong in the accessories group, not in the boat value, so that in the event of a claim it can be documented what is being replaced.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Do I have to report retrofits?
Not report them, but reflect them in the sum insured. Electronics and equipment belong in the accessories group of the calculator; what is not listed there is not part of the insured value in the event of a claim.

As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value. Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
On a motorboat the drive is the single most valuable part. Damage after grounding is covered, an engine failure from wear is not.
For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
