Worth knowing
Solaris Yachts; cover, cost and conditions
Solaris builds sailing yachts between 13 and 20 metres in Aquileia in the upper price class, semi-custom builds with vacuum infusion, carbon reinforcement and individual interior fit-out. These are performance cruising yachts with sums insured at the upper end of what the calculator covers.
With yachts of this class the valuation is individual and the fit-out is what makes the difference. A survey that records hull, rig, engine, electronics and fit-out separately is the basis of the agreed value. Carbon brings a material surcharge, because repairs require vacuum technology and post-curing. Anyone based in the Mediterranean who wants to go to the Black Sea or to North Africa needs the appropriate cruising range level.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
What does carbon cost in the premium?
There is a material surcharge whose amount is shown in the calculator. The reason is the complex repair, carbon damage requires vacuum technology and specialist yards.

As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts: a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat, and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value. Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
